Planet Friendly Food

We’re as passionate about reducing food waste and our impact on the environment as we are perfecting the right recipe and finding the best fruit. Farm to freezer means zero waste which is why we believe frozen is the future.

Here’s just a few of the things we’re doing to make sure make sure we leave things a little better than we find them

All the taste. None of the waste.

Food waste is currently a massive problem for the planet.

If food waste was a country, it would be the 3rd largest emitter of greenhouse gas behind China and the USA.

At least 30% of food produced globally goes to waste every year and 45% of that is fresh fruit and veg.

25% of the world’s fresh water is used to grow food that is never eaten.

In the developed world, the majority of this waste takes place in the home.

The average UK family wastes around £500 worth of food per year.

Yet despite all this food waste, it is estimated that around 690 million people went hungry in 2019.

Frozen fruit and veg have a lower carbon footprint because:

- Less gets wasted

- They can be grown seasonally reducing the need for out-of-season, energy-intensive growing

- Frozen produce can be transported by sea which lowers the carbon footprint compared to flying in out-of-season fresh produce which emits 42 times more carbon dioxide

Frozen is the future

There is no difference in terms of nutritional content between fresh fruit and veg and frozen fruit and veg.

In fact, freezing at source can often increase the nutritional benefits as vitamins, minerals and antioxidants all stay locked in at the same high level rather than the fresh stuff that wilts and deteriorates in the fridge.

By freezing our fruit and veg at the place they’re grown, we’re able to capture and lock in all the goodness on the day that they’re picked.

Meaning you get the maximum nutrition and taste without worrying about stuff going off.

What’s more, frozen fruit and veg have a lower carbon footprint as there is less wastage, no need for out-of-season energy intensive growing, and lower transportation emissions as we use sea rather than air.

Freezing is the way forward.
